engine help directory.
General
More forms can be found through our
search engine, than those listed in our directory tables.
Our search engine allows you
to use one word or a combination of words. However,
in your search, do
not use:
- the word "form"
- a state name in a search of form titles
- quotes
- and/or connectors
Search results found are
highlighted in green. If you do not know the full name of the form you
are looking for, use the first 4 letters of the name.
The most common error in using
our search engine is misspelled words, resulting in no hits.
US Forms and State Forms
Forms with US- at the beginning of the control number are general
forms for all states. However, some litigation forms are also placed
into the US- category as samples. All state specific forms have the
state abbreviation at the beginning of each form (i.e. AL-00101 for
Alabama).
Selecting Search Field
"US" or "State" Field
Our search engine allows you to limit the search results by narrowing
the search to a particular state. If a search results in a large number
of hits, it is recommended that you limit the results by adding the
"state" parameter.
"Titles", "Category" or
"Control Number" Field
Our "Titles" field is the most popular and results in hits on search
terms found in the title of all our forms.
The "Category" field results in a list of all forms related to a
particular category.
The "Control Number" will search form numbers only. This will become
more useful in the near future when a catalog of all forms will be
available for downloading and use off-line.
Common Search Errors
Spelling
Many users do not find what
they need due to spelling errors. A common example is using the search
phrase "Quickclaim Deed" instead of "Quitclaim Deed".
Subject Searches
If you are searching for form subjects you should select the form
category option. For example, do not search for "Real Estate" if you are
looking for a deed. Search for "deed" in the titles or by category.
Search too Broad
To limit a search results, the
user should narrow the search to a particular state or use search
phrases containing more than one word.
Search too Narrow
If your search returns no
results, you may wish to start with a broader search word or phrase. For
example, the phrase "corporate banking resolution" will result in no
hits but "bank resolution" will result in two hits.
